Euro standards are European Union regulations that set maximum thresholds for pollutant emissions (NOx, fine particles, CO, hydrocarbons) from motor vehicles.
History of standards for heavy goods vehicles:
| Standard | Year of entry into force | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Euro 0 | Before 1992 | No constraint |
| Euro I | 1992 | First standard |
| Euro II | 1996 | Diesel + indirect |
| Euro III | 2000 | Catalytic converters |
| Euro IV | 2005 | DPF optional |
| Euro V | 2008 | DPF widespread |
| Euro VI | 2013 | Very strict |
Importance for export:
Some African countries have adopted import regulations limiting vehicles that are too old or too polluting. Ivory Coast, Morocco and a few others have set up restrictions on Euro 0 or I vehicles.
When buying for export, it is important to check the vehicle's Euro standard and the destination country's restrictions.
