A 6x6 is a heavy vehicle with six wheels (three axles), all of which are driven. This configuration offers maximum traction on all types of terrain and a high load capacity.
Military 6x6s are the workhorses of military logistics. The best-known models are the Renault TRM 10000 (10-tonne payload), the Berliet GBC 180 and the Mercedes Unimog. These trucks are designed to operate in the most extreme conditions.
In Africa, ex-army 6x6s form the backbone of transport in isolated areas: they cross shallow rivers, degraded tracks and soft terrain thanks to their high ground clearance and excellent load-to-traction ratio.
