VLRA — French light reconnaissance vehicle

Light 4x4 liaison and reconnaissance vehicle built by Acmat.

Full glossary

The VLRA (Véhicule Léger de Reconnaissance et d'Appui — Light Reconnaissance and Support Vehicle) is a light 4x4 vehicle designed and built by the French company Acmat (Ateliers de Construction Mécanique de l'Atlantique), now a subsidiary of Renault Trucks Defense.

Main specifications:
- Engine: Perkins 6-cylinder diesel (various power outputs by generation)
- Configuration: 4x4 on a steel ladder chassis
- Payload: 1 to 1.5 tonnes depending on version
- Cab: open (pick-up style) or closed depending on variant
- Wheels: wide low-pressure rims for sandy terrain

Versions:
- VLRA TPK 4.20 SH: liaison version
- VLRA TPK 4.30 SM: command version
- VLRA TPK 6.40: heavy 6x6 version

The VLRA is particularly appreciated in the Sahel and sub-Saharan Africa for its light weight, its suitability to sandy terrain, and its low-pressure tyres that prevent getting bogged down.
